1. Khawna | Philippines
Launched this week, Khawna is an online learning platform which offers various courses to people who may need additional know-how in science, technology, engineering and entrepreneurship. The courses are presented in a tutorial video format and are taught by industry experts.
2. Flyfit | Taiwan
Flyfit is a wearable tracker developed by taiwan-based startup Qbit, that wraps around the lower leg. He and his team have targeted cyclists that are unhappy with the wristband trackers as potential customers. The company launched a Kickstarter campaign in February hoping to raise US$90,000.
3. Appography | Pakistan
Pakistan’s Appography is the developer of Vivid, which wants to get rid of waiting on the line and put customer service into an app. The startup is now being incubated by Plan 9 incubator in Lahore, and is one of the first startup in the current Plan9 batch to get seed funding.
In addition, the team is one of four Asian startups heading to Blackbox Connect in Silicon Valley for a two-week program later this month.
4. Scentee | Japan
Scentee is a new Japanese mobile app that emits smells. To do that, users need to download the app and purchase a special device that attaches to one’s mobile phone for it to work. Scentee’s SDK is also available on Github for developers who want to toy around with it.
5. Haystakt | Singapore
Launched in 2012, Singapore-based startup Haystakt puts a twist on the familiar crowdfunding concept by launching Projects, a crowdfunding site which allows crowd-pricing of products posted on its platform.
It is technically an e-commerce marketplace where users can influence the pricing of a product. Every item or “project” that’s posted on the marketplace has a posting duration and minimum order quantity which is dictated by the maker.
