Xiaomi experience and service center in China

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi yesterday announced it will open 100 “service and experience stores” across India, including cities such as Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bangalore. They are slated to open for business in the first week of April, according to the Economic Times.

Users can demo the phones and other Xiaomi products at the shops, but they won’t be for sale. Customers will still have to go through Xiaomi’s official online partner in India, Flipkart, to buy the phones.

From the looks of it, the Xiaomi storefronts will be very similar to those in China. Those include a mock living room with a Xiaomi TV and an Apple Store-like layout with other products on display.

Xiaomi also stated it plans to begin local production of its phone within 12 to 18 months in India, making it the first country outside of China to manufacture the phones.

Yesterday Xiaomi announced it would add the Redmi 2 smartphone and Mi Pad tablet to its India product lineup on March 24.

We’ve reached out to Xiaomi for more information and will update this article if and when they reply.
