Dear readers,
What happens when a startup gets big and then acquired? Well, people become rich. But more than that, they go on to start new companies.
In recent years, we’ve seen this very thing happen to ecommerce major Lazada. Which is why we thought it was a good time to document the growing Lazada mafia.
What’s interesting is that many key Lazada executives have gone on to front new ecommerce startups, no doubt tackling problems they’ve observed at their previous jobs. Others have chosen to enter new fields entirely.
Whatever the case, the Lazada DNA no doubt will have a strong influence on these new companies. We wish them all the best.
Speaking of ecommerce, we’ve tracked the rise of same-day delivery in Southeast Asia. Gojek and Grab have something to do with this trend, but a lot of it comes down to how ecommerce websites are improving their logistics operations. It’s likely same-day delivery will remain niche, though. Read the story to find out why.
