Taiwanese MOBA God of Destiny gets pushed back for a balance rework

I’m always a bit skeptical of MOBA games that aren’t League of Legends or DOTA, as it seems everyone and their mother is making a MOBA game these days to try to hop on the gravy train. But Taiwan’s God of Destiny (战神魔霸) is an upcoming MOBA from Wayi Entertainment that’s caught my eye thanks to its focus on the gods and devils from Chinese folklore (specifically Journey to the West). Chinese folklore has some awesome devils and demons, and I’d try any game that let me play as one of them.

Unfortunately no one will be getting a chance to try the game too soon, as the first round of closed beta testing has just been delayed by a month. The reason? The game apparently needs more work on balance, in addition to some other optimizations.

While in the short term it’s disappointing news, in the long term it’s probably a good sign. Any MOBA lives and dies on the balance of its characters, and if it’s not tuned properly, the game is doomed from the start. Hopefully, it’s a good sign that Wayi is willing to take the time to properly balance the game rather than trying to rush it into beta before it’s ready.

In the meantime you can check out the trailer and some gameplay footage in the videos below (the trailer is in English despite the Chinese title, but the gameplay footage is narrated in Chinese):
