Hello,

Do you have days where you kind of just coast through the hours and feel like you did nothing and were terribly unproductive by the end of the day? There’s nothing wrong with taking days off, but I’ve learned that we actually do more with our time than we think.

To help myself better visualize and understand what I accomplish daily, I like to jot down the things I did at the end of each day. Work assignments make up the majority of list items (on weekdays), but things like exercise and personal chores are also included.

These consistent updates help me keep a level, objective view of myself. Today’s featured premium piece, which provides the latest update on the Southeast Asia funding scene, is hopefully just as helpful to you in understanding where things stand for the region and, perhaps, your own company.

Today, we look at:

  • The latest overview of funding deals in Southeast Asia
  • The successful seed round of a Vietnam-based blockchain gaming studio
  • Other newsy highlights such as Nas Daily’s formal apology to acclaimed Filipino tattoo artist and Facebook’s launch of Instagram Reels in Singapore

We’re supposedly just starting to recover from the effects of the pandemic, but investors must be really optimistic going by the latest funding numbers. Southeast Asia’s startups have raised US$8.3 billion across 90 funding rounds in September alone. It looks like it’s full steam ahead.

  • First time? Some of the new players that have announced investments in Southeast Asia for the first time in the last 12 months include 1982 Ventures, Altara Ventures, and Kenangan Investment Fund.
  • Exceeding expectations: Some companies raised funding rounds this week that were bigger than average in their respective industries. Notable names include GoTo Group, Tiki.vn, and H3 Dynamics.

  • An overview: In the past year, 887 funding rounds have been raised totaling US$28.8 billion. General internet, ecommerce, logistics, and transportation are the industries getting the lion’s share of the deals.
