Amazon extends Singapore product offerings with Amazon.sg

US ecommerce giant Amazon is extending its presence in Southeast Asia with the launch of Amazon.sg, a bigger local online store in Singapore with a wider product selection.

Customers now have access to more categories such as books, consumer electronics, baby, toys, home, and kitchen.

The company officially launched in the city-state back in 2017 with Amazon Prime Now, its fast delivery service through a mobile app, but its initial local selection was not as wide as those of regional competitors Lazada and Shopee.

“With Amazon.sg, we want to provide what customers have been asking us for: the ability for everyone to shop on desktop and mobile, more local and international selection from Amazon and trusted sellers, paired with fast and reliable delivery,” says Amazon Singapore country manager Henry Low.

All customers in Singapore can enjoy free delivery on orders over S$40 within two to three days. Prime customers can receive free one-day delivery on local selections with no minimum spend and free international shipping on orders over S$60 for Amazon International Store products.

The company also said it will allow small and medium-sized businesses to list their products on Amazon.sg, offering them listing tools, payment processing, credit card fraud protection, promotional features, as well as reports and analytics.

According to Amazon, the number of SMBs exceeding US$1 million in sales in its online stores worldwide increased by 20% during the last year, reaching over 300 million active customer accounts globally.

Earlier this year, it was reported that Amazon was in preliminary talks with Indonesian unicorn Gojek to acquire a stake in the ride-hailing startup. The two entities were also said to have been in discussions for a potential partnership where Amazon would make a significant investment in Gojek to tap into the latter’s delivery infrastructure in Indonesia.

It was also reported earlier this year that Amazon looked to roll out more than 100 kiosks in shopping malls across India as part of its offline push. Previously, it had been operating just two kiosks in Bangalore and one each in Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
