Sources: Ant Group creates gov’t relations team for Asia expansion plans
“Facing scrutiny at home, Jack Ma’s Ant Group is building a team to burnish its reputation with policy makers in the Asian markets on which its international ambitions hinge,” reported Bloomberg, citing sources.
Details:
- Ant is hiring more people for a new division that will handle international government and foreign policy issues. Chen Leiming, the company’s senior vice president, is leading the team, which already has under 10 employees.
- Establishing rapport with foreign government decision-makers will be the key task of the team, as Ant makes a push to expand its digital wallets and payments system in Asia.
Context:
- Ant already has overseas investments in 10 companies across nine Asian countries, according to the Bloomberg report.
- Back home, the company has been facing slow growth amid issues with regulators and the scrutiny faced by founder Jack Ma.
