Pay for your Malaysia Airlines tickets on your phone with PayPal

Motivated by the rise in the use of mobile payments in Malaysia and worldwide, Asian carrier Malaysia Airlines and online payment service provider PayPal have partnered up, allowing customers to book and pay their tickets safely using any Internet-connected mobile device.

The national carrier’s MHmobile app and flymas.mobi mobile site now accept PayPal payments for its domestic flights and outbound flights departing from Malaysia.

In this strategic partnership, Malaysia Airlines customers may purchase tickets in as few as two clicks. Users only have to log into their PayPal accounts using their email address and password to make their payments. Since no financial data will be stored on the mobile device, users’ privacy and financial information are protected in the online transaction and never shared with any merchants.

The recently published PayPal Mobile Shopping Insights 2011 study disclosed that the mobile commerce market in Malaysia expanded by 370 percent in just a single year, and is expected to grow more than seven-fold in 2015. The study also revealed that airline ticket booking will constitute a top three choice for future purchases on smartphones.

Malaysia Airlines believes that this introduction of mobile payments will provide customers with a better checkout experience using PayPal’s convenient and secure mobile payment service. Moreover, this enables the carrier to reach out to more travellers on PayPal’s worldwide network of 94 million active users, and helps strengthens its position in Southeast Asia, particularly the growing mobile payment marketspace.

Customers can download the MHMobile app for free, which is currently compatible with any iOS, Android or Windows Phone mobile devices.
