Hello reader,

Downsizing has been a familiar theme of the ongoing tech downturn in Southeast Asia.

When we think of downsizing, what usually comes to mind is layoffs at startups and tech firms in the region. However, the ecosystem goes beyond these companies. It’s also the players holding the checkbooks that are cutting back.

Today’s featured story looks at two key departures at VC firm MassMutual Ventures (MMV) – though it’s not the only investor scaling back in Southeast Asia.

MMV is the latest VC firm to trim down its team amid the ongoing tech slump and limited exit opportunities.

Managing partners Ryan Collins and Anvesh Ramineni will leave the US-based company in the second quarter of 2025, Tech in Asia has learned.

  • Roots: Collins and Ramineni currently oversee the VC firm’s investments in Europe and Asia Pacific (APAC). The pair was part of the team that launched MMV Southeast Asia in Singapore seven years ago.
  • A trend?: Last week, two senior partners announced their departure from fellow VC firm Peak XV Partners. One of them was Abheek Anand, who co-led the company’s operations in Southeast Asia.
  • Track record: MMV’s investments in Europe and APAC have largely focused on late-seed to series B startups in the digital health, fintech, enterprise software, climate software, and Web3 spaces. One of the team’s exits was cross-border platform Neat, which was acquired by fintech firm Rapyd in December 2021.
