Rising startups on Tech In Asia: property portals, chairs for gamers, and more
Which are the startups that are on the path to becoming the next big thing? In this regular post, we give you an overview of the companies that have raised money in the past week, as well as those we think investors should look at.
1. Meesho (India)
Online marketplace Meesho raised US$125 million in a funding round led by Naspers with participation from Facebook, SAIF, Sequoia Capital India, Shunwei Capital, RPS Ventures, Venture Highway, and former Vodafone Group CEO Arun Sarin. The fresh funds will be used for enhancing its analytics and machine learning tech, among others. More info.
2. RedDoorz (Singapore)
RedDoorz, an online budget hotel startup, secured US$70 million in funding from Rakuten Capital, Mirae Asset-Naver Asia Growth Fund, and Asia Partners. The funding round comes on the heels of a US$45 million series B fundraise and will help the company compete with Indian rival Oyo. More info.
3.Uniphore (India)
IUniphore, a provider of AI-driven speech recognition technology, raised US$51 million in a series C round led by March Capital Partners with participation from Chiratae Ventures, Sistema Asia, and the Patni family, among others. The funds will support the growth of the startup’s North American business. More info.
4. Secretlab (Singapore)
Secretlab, a maker of gaming chairs, secured an undisclosed amount of investment from Heliconia Capital Management. This reportedly brings the startup’s valuation to S$200 million. The funds will go towards building global partnerships, research and development, hiring, and supply chain procurement. More info.
5. Instarem (Singapore)
Instarem, a cross-border payments company, is on track to achieve US$5 billion in transactions this year. It operates in more than 40 countries across Asia, North America and Europe, and plans to hold an IPO in 2022. More info.
6. BeliMobilGlue (Indonesia)
Used-car marketplace BeliMobilGlue, received a US$30 million commitment from Berlin-based joint venture partner Frontier Car Group. It also appointed former Ovo executive Johnny Widodo as its new CEO. More info.
7. QFPay (China)
Mobile payments platform QFPay secured US$20 million from MDI Ventures, Rakuten Capital, VentureSouq, Sequoia Capital China, and Matrix Partners. The startup operates a digital payment ecosystem across 13 markets and will be developing new digital payment products and solutions. More info.
8. 99.co (Singapore)
Property marketplace 99.co raised a US$15 million series B round from Mindworks Ventures, Allianz Strategic Investments, Sequoia India, and East Ventures. It previously secured US$10 million in funding. More info.
9. KiotViet (Vietnam)
KiotViet, a provider of cloud-based point-of-sale software, secured US$6 million in a series A round from Jungle Ventures and Traveloka. It will use the fresh funds to develop its leadership team and extend its network across Vietnam. More info.
10. Goola (Indonesia)
[Gool]a(https://www.instagram.com/goola.id/?hl=en), a food and beverage brand, raised US$5 million from Alpha JWC Ventures. It has five stores in Jakarta and will open 15 more outlets in the country this year, with the goal of reaching 100 branches by 2020. More info.
11. Shwe Property (Myanmar)
Shwe Property, a property portal, secured US$3 million in a series B round led by Emerging Markets Investment Advisors. Participating in the funding round were Vostok New Ventures, 500 Startups, a UK-based investment fund, iProperty and Mitula Group ex-chairman Simon Baker, and the family office of Galaxy Media and Entertainment Vietnam chairwoman Dinh Thi Hoa. 12. Airlift (Pakistan)
Airlift, a bus booking app, raised more than US$2.2 million in seed funding from Fatima Ventures and Gobi Partners. It aims to expand into urban centers in developing markets. More info.
13. StakeWith.Us (Singapore)
StakeWith.Us, a blockchain infrastructure startup, raised US$600,000 in a seed funding round led by SGInnovate and LuneX Ventures. It aims to expand across Asia. More info.
14. Hungy Hub (Thailand)
Buffet app Hungry Hub raised US$450,000 from Expara Thailand and 500 Startups. It aims to raise a series A round within the next 12 months to fund its global expansion. More info.
