Hann Liew and Lucas Ooi, founders of Malaysian fintech firm Jirnexu, have announced their new venture: Halogen Capital, a fund manager focused on digital assets.
As shared on Liew’s LinkedIn post, the new company aims to make crypto investing mainstream in Malaysia. Crypto investors in the country have limited choices: They can either opt for unregulated offshore exchanges or go with onshore platforms focused on short-term trading instead of longer-term investing.
Halogen Capital’s goal is to “safely” open up crypto investing to individual and institutional investors.
Liew serves as the company’s CEO while Ooi acts as chief business officer.
Halogen Capital holds a full license from the Securities Commission of Malaysia, allowing it to manage cryptocurrencies, NFTs, and tokenized assets, among others. It offers a ringgit-denominated fixed income wholesale fund.
The company also has a Shariah-compliant fund for Bitcoin and plans to roll out a similar fund for Ethereum.
Liew wrote in the post that Halogen Capital wants to provide “access and professional management through familiar traditional structures such as mutual funds, managed portfolios, and hopefully ETFs soon.”

The news comes just weeks after Liew and Ooi left their leadership posts at Jirnexu, a startup that helps banks and insurance companies streamline their operations. They both remain shareholders and board members of Jirnexu.
