This Chinese electric vehicle brand has outsold Tesla
While Tesla has enjoyed immense popularity in China, beating out the likes of notable competitors like BYD and Nio, it’s been overthrown by a local firm. A city electric vehicle (EV) developed by SGMW – a joint venture by SAIC Motor, Liuzhou Wuling Motors, and GM China – has outsold Tesla’s best-selling EV, the Model 3, nearly two units to one in January of 2021.

SGMW sold 36,762 units of its budget Wuling Hongguang Mini EV, compared to Tesla’s 21,589 Model 3 vehicle sales, making it the world’s top-selling EV in the first month of the year, according to EV-Sales Blogspot.
One key advantage of the Wuling Hongguang Mini is its price. Starting at just 28,800 yuan (US$4,432), the vehicle has proven to be a popular choice for Chinese citizens living in big cities.
