Report: Indian e-grocer makes foray into instant delivery after Zomato investment

“Online grocery delivery firm Grofers, after having raised US$120 million from public-listed firm Zomato, has forayed into instant deliveries and delivered to over 7,000 households in 15 minutes on July 26″ Moneycontrol reported, citing the Grofers co-founder Albinder Dhindsa.

Details:

  • Grofers said it has transformed its network of partners over the past year to source directly from brands and set up infrastructure to help serve customers faster and with fewer touch points.
  • While the instant delivery service is currently available only in Gurgaon, the company said it plans on expanding it to other cities in India in the future.

Dive deeper:

  • In the early days of its existence, Grofers had tried its hand at instant delivery. However, the initiative did not pan out due to a high burn rate and low ticket sizes.
  • Last month, the Sequoia-backed grocery delivery firm raised US$100 million from the newly-listed Zomato, while Tiger Global invested US$20 million into the e-grocer.
