Zombie Indie House, a student game developer group from India, has created Regalia Alpha, an interesting pixel-art-infused RPG.
It has an interesting concept wherein you spend a lot of time creating your character who inevitably levels down as you fight. Yes, you lose experience points and the abilities you’ve earned as you keep playing. The reason for this is due to a glitch which you and your in-game friends must find and fix before your time is up. It forces you to try different playstyles in order to progress.
Regalia Alpha was made in 20 days by a team of four working part-time on it, which means it’s still a bit rough around the edges. Though it’s a complete game in its current state, the team would like to expand it into a larger game, which is of course, dependent on player feedback from people such as yourself.
It’s always nice to see Indian developers try something out of the usual “safe” genres like cricket or endless runners. Granted, Regalia Alpha was first created for a contest, but it’s refreshing to see a studio wanting to make it a viable, expanded product as well.
If you like your RPGs indie with pixel art and an original soundtrack complete with a unique twist, go ahead and vote for it, as it is an entry for both Gamejolt’s #glitchjam and the 2014 Indie Game Maker.
