What’s more frustrating than having slow internet? Having slower internet than a toilet. But that might be the case if you’re one of the many, many people worldwide with an internet connection slower than 50 Mbps. That’s because a public bathroom in the Chinese city of Chongqing now boasts free 50 Mbps wifi, according to the Chongqing Evening News.
The bathroom is one of twenty high-tech public restrooms Chongqing’s Nanan district plans to build in 2016. In addition to the free wifi, it also features mobile charging stations and, in the lobby area, a microwave, a fridge, a free water dispenser, and some emergency first aid supplies and medicine. Oh, and did I mention the entire thing is solar powered, and on sunny days it’s totally self-powering?
This bathroom is literally nicer than my first apartment was.
Although China has plenty of public restroom facilities that are rated “five stars,” as this one is, few if any of them even have wifi, let alone wifi that’s more than 10x faster than the average connection speed in China. It might just be one of the nicest (public) places on earth to, ahem, do your business.
