Just last month, we revealed the iPhone 5c has made an early entrance in the Philippines through gray markets. Today, Philippine telcos just announced pre-orders are open for the two new Apple devices.
Thai telcos also announced their prices for the upcoming launch of iPhone 5S and 5c this week. Philippine telcos Smart Communications and Globe Telecom quickly followed suit. So people who have not gotten a hold of these new Apple devices already can reserve their slot and register through the pre-order page of Smart and Globe. Postpaid prices have not been announced in the Philippines yet, but users will be notified of the pricing plans available after they register.
Pre-orders started just past midnight last night.
Who gets the first iPhone gold?
Two years back, Globe announced Philippine president Benigno Aquino was its first subscriber for the iPhone 4S in the Philippines. And last year, it was the Hollywood star Zac Efron who visited Manila and snagged the first iPhone 5. Who will it be this year?
In Hong Kong and in mainland China, the iPhone 5s Gold sold out almost immediately to the dismay of many Apple fanatics. While we do not have the number of units available yet for each of the telcos, we expect the same to happen in the Philippines.
Smart also announced the new Apple devices will be available starting November 15, following the pre-order that started today. Without knowing how many gray market phones are already on the market, it’s difficult to predict how they will affect official sales.
