Carousell taps Atome for BNPL in Hong Kong

Online marketplace major Carousell is set to implement a buy now, pay later feature for its merchants in Hong Kong through a partnership with Atome.

According to an announcement on Carousell’s Hong Kong website, buyers can avail an installment plan by binding their credit card, debit card, or Apple Pay to their accounts. This will divide their bills into three interest-free payments.

With the move, Carousell becomes the latest company that’s partnered with Atome to provide BNPL services to its users. It follows the fintech firm’s similar tie-ups with India’s Pine Labs, Singapore’s Fomo Pay, and Malaysia’s PayHalal.

Carousell’s announcement also comes after it raised US$100 million earlier this year, which secured its spot in the unicorn club.

Announcing the fundraise, co-founder and CEO Siu Rui Quek also said the company’s looking to double down on its “recommerce efforts.” A couple of weeks later, the company announced that it had acquired Singapore-based Ox Street, a marketplace for buying and selling sneakers.
