Hello reader,

When I was working on my network graph of the women founders and leaders in Southeast Asia’s top-funded tech startups, I spent a significant chunk of my time digging through company websites and LinkedIn profiles in search of women who would belong on the list.

After all, not every company puts the names and faces of their top brass on the internet, and it was a pretty time-consuming process for me to sift through all the data to compile my list.

What would have been helpful to me at the time would have been a comprehensive chart of the top management at these companies – and I’m sure it’s something that would be helpful to many other people as well. That’s something Tech in Asia is trying to do through a series of organizational charts, where we map out the people behind the wheel at some of Asia’s biggest tech companies.

So far, we’ve put together charts for Grab, Sea Group, and Lazada – now, it’s GoTo Group’s turn.

Today we look at:

  • GoTo Group’s key decision-makers
  • What fresh funding will do for this Philippine-based wealth management startup
  • Other newsy highlights such as Shein’s fundraising plans and YouTrip’s newest board member

Who’s who at GoTo?

As Indonesia’s GoTo – the joint entity formed by the merger of ecommerce giant Tokopedia and ride-hailing major Gojek – gears up for its IPO, let’s take a closer look at the folks leading the company into the next stage of its journey.

  • People come and go: Tokopedia was founded in 2009 by William Tanuwijaya and Leontinus Alpha Edison, while Gojek was launched in 2010 by Nadiem Makarim, Kevin Aluwi, and Michelangelo Moran. While both Edison and Tanuwijaya are still part of Tokopedia, with Tanuwijaya serving as Tokopedia’s CEO, Aluwi is the only one of Gojek’s three co-founders still with the company.
  • The man at the top: Sitting at the top of the merged entity as CEO of GoTo and GoTo Financial is Andre Soelistyo, who became co-CEO of Gojek alongside Aluwi in 2019, when Makarim left to become the Indonesian minister for education.

  • Keeping things separate: One thing of note is that GoTo Financial, which Soelistyo oversees directly, exists as a separate entity – an indicator of the group’s emphasis on its financial services.
