Does a roleplaying game have to be made in Japan for it to be a JRPG? Malaysia-based studio Sherman3D has successfully gotten its JRPG Alpha Kimori Greenlit on Steam, proving that a JRPG made outside of Japan is still one legitimate enough to be loved by the community.
Built on the RPG Maker engine, Alpha Kimori is a romantic romp through the planet of Kimori, where a warrior from one warring faction falls in love with the princess of the other.
The full game is expected to deliver a combined twelve hours of gameplay in its two episodes, as well as show off game elements such as an interchangeable lead character, an interactive storyline, and avoidable enemy encounters.
Though the game is Greenlit, there is still a lot more to settle before it can move onto Steam. Producer Sherman Chin had this to say on Alpha Kimori’s Steam Greenlight page:
There is a ton of paperwork to go through now but it seems like everything is automated. We have to decide whether to incorporate in the US too apparently so this might take a bit of time to sort out. Thank you so much again! ^_^
Alpha Kimori was first showcased at Tokyo Game Show 2012. Read more about it here:
