Hereโ€™s where you can buy organic products from Indonesia online

Life in Indonesiaโ€™s capital is stressful. Jakarta is a congested and polluted urban sprawl crammed with people. It can be easy for residents to forget that the rest of the archipelago is largely rural and serene; a fertile landscape teeming with rice paddies, tropical fruit and palm trees, tea and coffee plantations.

Hereโ€™s the benefit. With ecommerce, urban residents have local products from the countryside at their fingertips. As healthy lifestyle trends start to take root in Indonesia, demand for organic food products rises, and with it, sustainable agriculture practices. It also creates a new source of income for rural communities.

If you find yourself craving healthy greens, home-grown cocoa, or wild rice, check out the following shops and their online ordering options. While the majority caters only to the greater Jakarta area (thatโ€™s the idea of local, after all), Iโ€™ve indicated those that ship internationally.

Kecipir

Kecipir is a relatively new startup that works with a principle similar to a cooperative: people get together to place a group order with a network of farm partners. Kecipirโ€™s app helps the group coordinate. The startup also manages the delivery from partner farms, but only to the greater Jakarta area for now. There are currently about 60 types of local vegetables on offer. Kecipir says it has about 1,000 members.

Ur-Farm

Ur-Farm sells an assortment of products, including non-perishables like cereals, fruit jams, bottled soy milk, and cosmetics via its ecommerce site. Many categories are still empty but it looks like the product portfolio will expand in the future. All products from Ur-Farm are local, the company says. It delivers internationally.
