MyRepublic’s rocket ship lands in New Zealand

myrepublic-cover

Just three months ago, MyRepublic secured $24 million in funding from Sinar Mas and Xavier Niel, and with that announced their intent to expand to New Zealand. Today, they’ve planted the first flag down under with the launch of a free three month trial offer of a 100Mbps ultra-fast fibre broadband for New Zealand homes nationwide.

This will certainly be good news for the Kiwis, who have had to put up with old ADSL broadband plans that the incumbent telcos have been providing, which still feature data limits. The current internet providers include Vodafone, Spark New Zealand, and Orcon.

With the three month trial offer, MyRepublic is hopeful that New Zealanders will eventually choose to make the switch to fibre broadband.

“We want to make a difference wherever we go,” says Malcolm Rodrigues, CEO of MyRepublic. “In Singapore, we broke the tedium and lack of competition in the fibre broadband market. In New Zealand, we’re pushing a new standard of ultra-fast fibre broadband.”

MyRepublic is seeking government approval to be Singapore’s fourth telco, and whether or not it succeeds in New Zealand could very well affect its chances.
