Bakrie Launches New Mobile Phone Specially For Bali

Esia Bakrie Telecom

Good news for Bali residents… Bakrie Telecom has launched a special phone for the region powered by Esia, its CDMA network.

The Indonesian telco giant is cooperating with local phone vendor Neofone to present the Esia Neofone FN-9 mobile phone. The phone is marketed only in Bali as Bakrie making a push for better penetration for Esia in the region.

Bakrie observed that 50 percent of Esia customers have two mobile phones: one CDMA and the other GSM. Bakrie is trying to cater to this need with the Neofone, which is packed with three SIM card slots. It can accomodate one CDMA and two GSM cards. During a trial over the past two weeks this phone has sold 1000 units, and after officially launched yesterday Bakrie is aiming to sell 5000 units in the month ahead. They might just succeed too considering how Indonesians tend to change their mobile phones before the Eid holiday.

Irfandi Firmansyah, the executive vice president of Bakrie Telecom explained more about the partnership with Neofone:

We want to strengthen our local partnership because we realise the importance local partners, since they know more about market condition, consumer desires, distribution channels and the competitive landscape in the region. It also reflect our support to local partners who share the same mission to develop the region. . . If the result is good, this program can be applied nationally.

During the launching promo, Esia provides free calls (for CDMA) for six months with this Neofone. As we reported previously, the competition between telcos during Ramadan and Eid can get intense — and this move from Bakrie shows that it doesn’t want to miss out.
