Go2Joy (known previously as Appro Mobile) was launched in 2017 by South Korean entrepreneur Simon Byun, who used to work for SK Telecom.
The Vietnam-based firm provides users with a database of information on one- and two-star hotels in the country to help them make reservations. Customers can book for hourly, half-day, or overnight accommodations, and payments can be made through e-wallets Payoo, MoMo, and OnePay.
The startup says it plans to expand to Thailand and the Phillippines in the near future as the hotel booking and tourism market recover from the pandemic.
In February 2020, the company raised US$2.5 million in a series A financing round from STIC Ventures, Wonik Investment Partners, KB Investment, and Wadiz Platform.
Government officials estimated that Vietnam’s tourism sector has lost about US$23 billion in revenue due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Before Go2Joy, Vntrip, another local travel startup, also managed to raise US$7 million amid the pandemic.
