Malaysia’s Carsome brings in former AirAsia exec as chief technology officer

Carsome, a Malaysia-headquartered trading platform for used cars, has appointed Vishnu Nambiar as its chief technology officer.

Experience:

• Nambiar previously served as chief information officer for AirAsia and chief technology officer of the group’s airline business. At the company, he rolled out initiatives related to the airline’s sustainability amid the pandemic and digitizing passengers’ experience.
• Prior to AirAsia, he also held positions in prominent tech companies like Lazada, Microsoft, and IBM.

• At Carsome, Nambiar will lead the technology team, working to digitalize the entire car ownership journey and providing data to help consumers make the best decision.
• He takes over the CTO post from Chet Sin, who will continue to serve the company as chief architect, leading the design and implementation of the company’s tech architecture.
• Carsome has been on a streak of C-level hiring, having just brought on Benjamin Koellmann and Juliet Zhu as chief operating officer and chief financial officer, respectively, in 2020, and Piyush Palkar as chief data officer earlier this year.
• Last month, Carsome agreed to unite with iCar Asia in a US$200 million deal that will boost its valuation to more than US$1 billion, making it first Malaysian unicorn.
