Auto marketplace Carsome brings in former Iflix exec as chief data officer

Carsome, a Malaysia-headquarterd trading platform for used cars, has appointed Piyush Palkar as chief data officer.

Experience:

• Palkar previously served as head of data at video streamer Iflix. He continued to serve in the role even after Chinese tech titan Tencent acquired Iflix.
• A construction engineer by qualification, Palkar is experienced in data and analytics across banking, energy, media and entertainment, and retail.

• At Carsome, Palkar will lead data analytics, maturity, engineering and management, as well as machine learning or AI-based data-driven innovations, business intelligence, and insights.
• The company’s data can benefit used-car dealers by giving them personalized recommendations when bidding for cars. Meanwhile, sellers can get data on proposed pricing when putting their cars on sale.
• Carsome says it’s on track to hit an annualized US$1 billion in revenue by the end of the second quarter this year.
• The marketplace, which operates in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Singapore, also plans to complete several merger and acquisition transactions in the near future.
• It hits 100,000 car transactions a year, totaling to more than US$800 million in transacted value.
