GoTo Group-led consortium launches oxygen supply facility in Indonesia

A consortium led by GoTo Group announced it will set up an oxygen supply facility, known as The Gotong Royong Oxygen House, for Covid-19 patients in Indonesia.

The Gotong Royong Oxygen House will be set up in partnership with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and gas producer Samator Group. Other unspecified government agencies will also help establish the facility.

Located in Pulogadung in East Jakarta, the facility will provide oxygen supply from the Samator Group’s oxygen production plant for Covid-19 patients. The consortium claims it is the first “semi-permanent” health facility in Indonesia equipped with oxygen supply tools and beds that can support those with moderate symptoms.

“No one should have to suffer due to a lack of oxygen, and we are determined to work with government and private sector partners to play a role in helping to alleviate this national problem,” said Andre Soelistyo, CEO of GoTo. He added that the consortium will appeal to more companies who can help set up new oxygen facilities in Indonesia over the coming weeks and months.

The development comes amid mounting concerns over a spike in Covid-19 cases in Indonesia as the Delta variant spreads across the world’s largest archipelago. In East Nusa Tenggara, infections have more than doubled in the last three days, while bed occupancy hit 86% in Lampung, 85% in East Kalimantan, and 79% in West Papua.

Recently, East Ventures, an early-stage VC firm based out of Indonesia, also said it is raising US$1 million to provide at least 1,000 oxygen concentrators through an initiative named Indonesia Pasti Bisa (IDPB) Safeguards Oxygen.
