This 3D virtual table brings cadaver dissection to life

Many medical schools, especially in emerging markets, do not have access to end-to-end resources such as physical labs, subsequently slowing down the learning for students.

Technology, however, can solve a lot of problems for medical schools and students alike. The solution would be a combination of technologies such as augmented reality, virtual reality, 3D models, and online classes.

Take Cadaviz, for example. It is a 3D virtual cadaver dissection table that lets users simulate the dissection process and visualize the human anatomy in great detail.

The table gives access to a full-sized virtual human body, and users can use their fingers like scalpels on the screen to perform dissections.

Immersive Vision Technology (Immersive Labz), the India-based edtech company behind Cadaviz, explains that the table provides a human-like 3D anatomy system, which allows users to virtually cut through any part of the body like they would be able to do so in physical labs. The 3D body also maps all blood vessels, nerves, and connections.

The company also points out that the virtual 3D version that Cadaviz provides can replace physical models of the human body, which are generally made of plastic and do not feature realistic details.

In addition to Cadaviz, Immersive Labz also offers Simulab, a combination of simulation software and related tools. The feature aims to gamify the teaching and learning processes.

Immersive Labz was co-founded in April 2021 by Navin Mandal, Amit Ranjan, and AK Sharma. While Mandal and Sharma are alumni of the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, Ranjan holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Delhi Technological University.
