GrabTaxi CTO leaves after just one year

wei-zhu-grabtaxi
Wei Zhu, CTO at taxi aggregator startup GrabTaxi, has left the company, according to a post on his Facebook page. According to Zhu, he has been with the company for about a year, but GrabTaxi announced his hiring last April together with the establishment of its new research & development center in Singapore.

“It is time for me to move on to explore new adventures in life. I would like to thank our founder Anthony Tan and the team of passionate and amazing fellow Grabbers for sharing this ride of a lifetime!” Zhu wrote on his Facebook post. Beyond some much needed vacation, his plans for the future are unclear.

He also wrote about how in the early days the system would “melt under the load multiple times a day,” and that the team expanded from 20 to a hundred under his tenure. Its engineers are in Singapore, Beijing, and Ho Chi Minh City.

Zhu has had a long career in the US, working with Microsoft and Facebook. He is mostly known for Connect with Facebook, the system that allows users to sign in to web and mobile services through their Facebook accounts. He recently shared some insights on his time in the US working on Facebook and Microsoft’s OneDrive precursor, Live Mesh, during the latest Product Hunt Singapore Meetup.

Tech in Asia has reached out to Zhu and GrabTaxi for more information.
