Flappy Bird may be gone from the app store, but that doesn’t mean it’s gone from our hearts. And while Flappy Bird creator Dong Nguyen hasn’t enjoyed the massive response his game received, he’s still making games.
In fact, a spokesman for Dong apparently told Chinese gaming media outlet QQ Games that Dong is working on a new game. In an email to the site, a spokesman for Dong wrote:
we can not respond to media to focus on nextprojects [sic].
That could just be a deflection, of course—it’s obvious that Dong doesn’t love the spotlight—but paired with his earlier tweet about continuing to make games, I’d say it’s probably confirmation that Dong is hard at work on another mobile game.
When we’ll see that game, or whether he’ll even release it under his own name now that he’s internationally famous, is another question entirely. And although it’s perhaps unprofessional of me, I’m not going to try to contact Dong for comment, as he has made it fairly clear he’s not interested in more attention from the press. (In fact, the email to QQ Games also said that Dong is trying to keep his personal information, especially photos of him, out of the press).
So take the above statement however you’d like, but don’t be surprised if the Flappy Bird creator has more than the pixellated bird up his sleeve.
