The Potential of E-Commerce in India [INFOGRAPHIC]

The Infographic of the Day series visually expresses important stories from Asia and the world of technology.

us-vs-india-ecommerceThe good folks at ReferralCandy, a referral marketing platform, have alerted us to a gorgeous infographic they have created (see below). A company rep says that they were intrigued by the growth of e-commerce in India and wanted to see what the hype was about. Its research eventually led to the infographic below, neatly summarized and designed.

Although e-commerce in India is growing rapidly, it is now just one-16th of the size of the U.S e-commerce Industry. But given the huge population in the country (1.2 billion), India has far greater potential than the U.S — a $500 billion potential in the industry.

The country’s potential is also factored in by building blocks such as the number of Internet and mobile users and also the ‘comfortability’ of the people making credit card payments on the Internet. There are of course other methods to collect payments – for example, through a telco or through active merchants like the way mig33 has implemented it.

Enjoy the infographic below.
