Foxconn, a Taiwan-based supplier of Apple, intends to set up a new factory in India to produce AirPods for an order it recently won, Reuters reported, citing sources.
The company is expected to invest more than US$200 million to build the new AirPod plant in the state of Telangana. Construction is set to begin in the second half of this year, with the production of AirPods starting by the end of 2024.
After manufacturing and assembling iPhones for years, Foxconn will become an AirPod supplier for the first time with this deal. Currently, several Chinese companies manufacture AirPods.
This development comes after Apple overhauled its international sales management team to focus more on India. The country will become a separate sales region for the company.

It was also recently reported that Foxconn will be pouring US$700 million into building a 300-acre plant in India.
