Valued at $1bn, Garena is Singapore’s biggest internet company

Most of us reading Games in Asia probably wouldn’t identify Garena as an internet company, but that’s just what The Economist has crowned it.

And not just that—Garena also has the title of being Singapore’s biggest internet company, with a valuation of $1bn. Trailing behind it is video streaming website Viki, recently bought out by Rakuten. But even an exit hasn’t gotten it close to Garena.

Garena shares the honor of being the biggest internet company in its country-of-registration with giants like Alibaba, Tencent, Baidu, Google, and Amazon.

Other gaming corporations valued at approximately $1bn are VNG from Vietnam, the game engine Unity from Denmark, and MOL from Malaysia.
