Nearly one month to the day after Japan’s tragic March 11th earthquake, the Twitter-sourced Quakebook is on sale at Amazon today, with every cent you pay going to the Japanese Red Cross. The official title is 2:46: Aftershocks: Stories from the Japan Earthquake.
The book contains stories, essays, photos and artwork collected from Japan and all around the world. Since we first reported on the project, Yoko Ono, William Gibson, Barry Eisler, and Jake Adelstein have all submitted work for inclusion in Quakebook.
When contacted today, the anonymous British blogger who started it all tells us “I’m elated, this what we were battling for, and we’ve won. But now the real work begins: getting cash and help to where it is needed.”
He’s right. Japan is still very much in need of donations, so there are a few things you can do to help:
- Buy Quakebook over at Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk. Even if you don’t have a Kindle, you can use the Kindle app on a number of other devices.
- If for some reason you can’t buy it, Tweet it to others who might.
Also check out this very moving short video created by the Quakebook team as well. And for those of you living in Tokyo, there will be an event tonight at the Pink Cow in Shibuya where members of the team will tell the story.
