2:46 QuakeBook Is A Twitter-sourced Book for Japan Relief

We have seen many efforts to raise funds for Japan. This time, the effort has become even more meaningful and creative. 2:46 QuakeBook is a Twitter-sourced book written by over 80 Twitter users.

It started with a tweet calling out for tweet submissions and within 15 hours, 74 submissions were received. The book was built in around ten days and is at its final editing stage. The release date isn’t announced yet. Part of the title, ‘2:46’ was the time when the earthquake first struck Japan on 11 March.

“Led by OurManInAbiko, a call went out across Twitter for contributors to create a book to raise funds for Red Cross Japan. The idea was to share the stories and experiences of people actually on the ground during the earthquake, whilst raising funds for the Red Cross,” said the Quakebook team through a blog post.

The book has attracted many media attention including The Japan Times, WSJ and CNN. However Abiko isn’t at all satisfied. Reading through his latest blog post, Abiko is eager to help Japan and hope the book could be a big hit to help raise fund for the relief. All proceeds will be given to Red Cross Japan for relief work.

“We’ve got the book and we’re getting attention; our backroom mover and shaker is er, moving and shaking, with Amazon. People are responding around the world to the message of #quakebook, that alone we are useless, together we can create something amazing, selfless, to benefit others, and by so doing, improve ourselves,” said Abiko.

“I really feel we are on the brink of something amazing. But… We still have not raised a single penny for survivors of the disaster. This is simply unacceptable. We must translate this global effort into something real. Now.”

I admire his effort and thought his idea of using Twitter as a content generated is pretty smart and innovative. I’m getting a 2:46 QuakeBook. You can order yours via the sidebar form at Quakebook’s site. Play a part.
