China has a Microblog Love Novel

‘Weibo Shiqi De Aiqing’ (Love in the Age of Microblog) is a Chinese love novel written by author Wen Huajian (right). It has been described as China’s first microblog novel. However, note that we have also seen other novel claiming as the first microblog novel in China –  here and here

The book authors about the love journey between a celebrity and “him” as the first person in the novel. Author Wen explained that ‘Weibo Shiqi De Aiqing’ was written “together” with his followers on Sina Weibo. The main story still followed his thoughts but events within the story were very much according to readers feedback.

The end result was a 500 posts narrative attracting a total of 126,000 readers, the Global Times reported. In his short introduction, Wen said that the book was popular not solely because it is China’s first microblog novel. Its popularity was also boosted by the book’s ability to share the reality of life, love and emotion which people can easily relate to.

More Microblog-books

Microblogging isn’t just a trend in the digital world but also in the publishing industry. In Indonesia, we have Politweet, a Twitter-like book on politics. Salman Aristo’s sharp and smart tweets on politics, got him head-hunted by a publishing house to compile his tweets into a book.

In response to help Japan’s earthquake victims, Twitter user OurManInAbiko led the effort to launch Quakebook, a Twitter-sourced book written by over 80 Twitter users. The book is now on amazon’ s top ten best selling non-fiction list after it was published just a couple of days ago.
