In brief: Go-Jek backs news app Kumparan

Via Reuters:

Indonesian ride-hailing and online payment company Go-Jek has invested in digital media startup Kumparan as part of its expansion into online content, it said.

Go-Jek said the investment in Jakarta-based Kumparan had been done through its recently launched venture capital arm Go-Ventures, but did not disclose the size of its funding.

Kumparan’s news and social media platform allows users to create and share content.

Go-Jek is expanding into subscription-based streaming through a service called Go-Play as well as content production with Go-Studios, which has partnered with Vice Media.

In April, Go-Jek integrated Kumparan content channels into its app, allowing the ride-hailer’s users to catch up on the news.

A spokesperson confirmed to Tech in Asia that Go-Jek president Andre Soelistyo has joined Kumparan’s board as an independent commissioner.
