Cisco has just published its annual Visual Networking Index, and the company forecasts that internet traffic is likely to reach over 80 exabytes per month in the year 2015. That’s four times as much as the traffic levels we have now.
The Asian region is the one that is expected to experience the most traffic at about 24.1 exabytes each month, just a little more than North America. Note that this doesn’t even factor in Japan, which is projected to account for nearly five exabytes on its own.
The graph below shows Cisco’s breakdown of the Asian region, but we’ve added Japan to the mix as well. As you might expect, South Korea with its blazing internet speeds is currently the highest consumer of data in the world. Keep an eye on China though, as it looks to be gaining a big digital appetite as well.
