IDC: China to ship 360 million smartphones this year, 450 million in 2014

Research group IDC believes that China will ship in more than 450 million smartphones in 2014. That’s up from an estimated 360 million this year.

Though Chinese authorities haven’t yet set a date for a nationwide 4G rollout, IDC estimates that 120 million 4G smartphones will help boost 2014’s numbers.

Samsung leads China’s smartphone market in terms of sales, with Huawei and Lenovo battling it out for second and third place.

Data from other sources suggest that Android dominates China’s smartphone landscape, with an estimated 300 million active Android phones being used by the end of this year.
