Alibaba’s enterprise communication platform DingTalk has laid off nearly 30% of its staff, Pandaily reported, citing local media outlet Sina Tech.
DingTalk reportedly conducted “organizational optimizations,” which led to its adjustment ratio falling to 10%. This number represents the ratio of its staff that left on their own volition or quit due to seasonal events.
The proportion of merit pay has also supposedly been cut to 6% from a previous range of 4% to 10%.
While the company has cut down on a few teams that primarily dealt with independently developed SaaS and hardware, some important departments were hardly affected, and a few departments even recruited new staff.
In March, Alibaba’s community group-buying business unit MMC was also said to be laying off about 20% of its employees.
The current report of staff cuts come amid an ongoing crackdown on tech in Beijing. Video-streaming service iQiyi is reportedly letting go of around 20% to 40% of its current workforce and TikTok rival Kuaishou is looking to cut 30% of its staff.
