Gamification startup raises series A to boost training and engagement at work

Training on the job

Photo credit: Knolskape announced today it raised a series A round of funding. The amount is undisclosed. The funding came from US-India venture firm Inventus Capital Partners and The HR Fund, an India-based private investment company specializing in human resource-related investments.

Knolskape focuses in gamification for the purposes of employee education and engagement. Its products include simulations for different scenarios, training games and videos, and an analytics platform for assessment and communication.

Gamification as a tool for training and engagement is becoming more popular.

The company was founded by BITS-Pilani graduates Rajiv Jayaraman and Vijay Kalangi, CEO and CTO respectively. Its clients include businesses like travel agency Amadeus, Ernst & Young, and Vodafone.

The funding will be used for international expansion, further development of the product, and building partnerships in the markets the company wants to enter. It’s counting on Inventus’ help and advice to grow globally, while the HR Fund’s experience with the HR community will be an added bonus.

Gamification as a tool for training and engagement is becoming more popular, with Gartner predicting that the market will reach about US$5.5 billion by the end of 2018. Companies providing such solutions in Asia Pacific include Australia’s Reffind and Thailand’s Playbasis.

Knolskape was one of the startups selected last year by Microsoft Ventures for its accelerator program in India.
