Rumor: Tencent will bring Iron Knight to GDC, plans to release it outside China

As China’s domestic games industry gets bigger, the rest of the world gets more interested in the games that are being made in China. And thankfully, Chinese developers are getting more interested in sharing their creations with the rest of the world, too. The latest news on this front is a rumor that Tencent plans to show off a “mysterious” game at the upcoming GDC conference in San Francisco that it plans to offer outside China’s borders as well as domestically.

What is this mysterious game? All signs point to it being Iron Knight.

You may recall Iron Knight from my list of 9 Asian games to look forward to in 2014, published back in January. It’s a gorgeous-looking medieval MMORPG that’s focused on more realistic medieval combat that, as I said a few months ago, looks like a combination of the best parts of Chivalry and Blade & Soul. If this is what Tencent plans to bring to GDC and distribute to the outside world, color me excited!

In the meantime, one thing we know for sure about Iron Knight is that it’s coming to closed beta in China this spring. If you don’t want to wait for the overseas release, you can try to throw your hat into the ring for a spot in the closed beta here.
