Oh man. This was a week. Was this ever a week. We had search engine wars, copycats galore, a new design for Sina Weibo, and China’s biggest web video companies finally tying the knot. Want to learn more? Click the links.

1. Youku and Tudou Officially Merge, Gary Wang Announces His Retirement

We’ve known this was coming for a long time, but this week it finally happened: Youku and Tudou became “Youku Tudou Inc.” What we didn’t see coming was that Gary Wang took the opportunity to resign on the eve of Tudou’s delisting from the NASDAQ. Interesting indeed.

4. WeChat App Pushes Into Social Media Marketing Via QR Codes

The world’s biggest group messaging app, Tencent’s WeChat – or “Weixin” as it’s called in Chinese – is taking an interesting turn in China. It is now also a platform for social media marketing, so users can follow brands, celebrities, or media.

5. Tencent Removes Illegally Copied Game

A week after we first reported on it, it seems Tencent has pulled the illegal copy of Cloudstone it had previously been hosting on its social network, Pengyou, and the Tencent app store. Coincidence? We highly doubt it, but hey, you never know.
