At the end of last week Japan saw the release of the long-awaited Playstation 4 (PS4), and with it a string of some highly-anticipated launch titles. Therefore it is little wonder that the PS4 and its new releases dominated the sales charts and took the majority of the top spots.
The real story here is how well the PS4 did in its first two days. We’ve already compared the PS4’s release with its predecessors, but it is worth reiterating that the PS4 selling 322,083 units in just two days is a big deal. It is even on track to outsell Nintendo’s 2006 launch of the Wii. Tack this number on to the already 5.2 million PS4s sold worldwide, and you can see that the system is doing quite well.
You may notice that Knack sold as many copies as the PS4 did units. That’s because it came bundled with the PS4. The true shocker on this list is how well the 3DS did to keep three titles in the top ten. This includes Youkai Watch which has been around since July of last year. Keep in mind that the chart only has information up until February 23, 2014, just two days after the PS4 launch. I expect next week to be a bit more Playstation heavy.
