5,300,000 PlayStation 4 consoles sold to date

The PlayStation 4 (PS4) hasn’t even launched in its home market yet and this next-gen console has already sold 5.3 million units. This was just announced via press release on the Sony Japan site.

And to think that the console just reached 4.2 million units mark at CES 2014, roughly a month and a half ago. That means the PlayStation 4 sold about 1.1 million units in the last 45 days or so.

With the PS4 launching this weekend in Japan (on February 22, 2014 to be exact), we expect those numbers to skyrocket.

Microsoft, you gotta keep up!
