Xiaomi unveils sensor panels for its smart home ecosystem

The hype from Xiaomi’s new product launch last week hasn’t even died down yet, and Xiaomi co-founder Lin Bin has already showed off more new smart home gadgets at Beijing’s annual GeekPark Innovation Festival over the weekend (h/t 36kr).

These new devices come in the form of sensors placed around the home. The sensors measure things like light, sound, temperature, and movement. They can then send signals to other smart gadgets around the home, like turning on an air conditioner, lights, an air purifier, a security camera, and, of course, pushing data and alerts to smartphones.

This one detects and alerts the user when a door or window is open.

The sensors’ batteries last two years.

They communicate using the ZigBee protocol. In theory, that means they are compatible with other devices using the same protocol.

The sensors can be attached to most surfaces using either screws or double-sided tape.

The beta version of the sensors will be sold in small batches on Xiaomi’s official website for just RMB 1 (US$0.16) via flash sale starting January 26.
