In addition to the fundraise, Cosmos Innovation announced the launch of Mobius: a platform that uses AI to help speed up the development process for perovskite-silicon tandem solar cells, which are made by stacking perovskite solar cells on top of silicon ones.
Research has shown that this type of solar cells can convert over 30% of the sunlight it receives into electrical energy.
In comparison, most commercial cells available have efficiencies below 30%.
Through Mobius, Cosmos Innovation uses AI to optimize the experimental designing, testing, and iterating loop. The company sees AI as crucial to reach its goal of creating the first self-learning fab for solar and semiconductor technology.
Cosmos Innovation was founded in 2020 by Vijay Chandrasekhar and Joel Li, who both have academic and professional backgrounds in AI, semiconductors, and solar tech. They also individually led specialized engineering teams at major research institutes.
