Rocket Internet’s PricePanda gets new round of funding

Price comparison search engine PricePanda today continued Rocket Internet’s recent acquisitions spree in Asia by taking over an Australian rival named Getprice. The terms of the deal are not disclosed.
On top of that, Rocket Internet revealed this evening that PricePanda has received a new funding round from its existing investors, Tengelmann Ventures, Kinnevik, and Rocket’s own Asia Pacific Internet Group. That investment amount also hasn’t been revealed. PricePanda’s previous funding round in January 2014 was worth US$3 million.
PricePanda operates in India, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Mexico, Columbia, and Argentina, allowing people to compare prices on local ecommerce sites. It first launched in September 2012.
The PricePanda-Getprice hook-up comes exactly a month after another Rocket Internet startup, Foodpanda, snapped up six rival food delivery sites across seven countries.
PricePanda faces a number of rival product search engines across Asia, such as Indonesia’s PriceArea and Telunjuk, or a number of similar Indian services like PriceDekho and Junglee.
