Vizzio’s founder Jon Lee steps down as CEO

Vizzio Technologies has announced the appointment of chief marketing officer David See as its interim CEO. This suggests Jon Lee has stepped down as CEO. Jon’s current role in the startup is unclear.

“We will do better and are confident that this leadership enhancement, along with our commitment to robust governance, positions Vizzio for a strong future,” said the company’s board of directors in a statement.

The development comes after Tech in Asia’s exposé on Jon, who admitted to lying about his Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Cambridge.

In a previous interaction with Tech in Asia, Jon said he was looking for someone to take over his role for him to “quickly get out” of Singapore and work on Vizzio from behind the curtains.

Days before the article was published, Kai-Fu Lee – a Vizzio investor and a prominent figure in the AI space – stepped down from the company’s board.

Notably, Vizzio’s board of directors previously stressed their support for the CEO after the exposé went out. “We are resolved to support Jon and to continue Vizzio’s mission and the future of our business earmarked by the many successful and proven projects since its inception,” the statement read.

The Straits Times also recently reported that Vizzio inflated its customer numbers on its website. According to the report, several customers that The Straits Times contacted denied having any association with the AI firm.

Vizzio’s website, which showcased 40 clients before Tech in Asia’s expose, now only counts nine clients on its homepage.
