When it comes to startup programs, ‘Silicon Valley’ is an automatic draw. That’s exactly what iStartup, a new initiative that aims to impact knowledge about the art and science of entrepreneurship, is banking on.
Jointly organized by think-tank Art+Data Institute and Singapore business incubator iAxil, iStartup will feature Silicon Valley coaches and mentors like TrailerPop founder Jon Vlassopulos, serial entrepreneur Mark Sigal, video analytics practitioner Phillip Alvelda, and Roger Wood, founder of Art+Data Institute and a former senior VP at SingTel-acquired Amobee.
More mentors from United States and Asia will be announced in the future.
Held in Singapore from 13 September to 17 December this year, the program will cost SGD 3,210 (USD 2,545), although Singapore citizens and permanent residents will need to pay only SGD963, courtesy of the government. Briefing sessions will be held in July, and registration will start on 16 August.
iStartup will zoom in on using data to make decisions with Art+Data’s methodology, and will cover a wide range of topics from product development to sales and marketing.
Applicants do not need to own a startup to join the program, though they will be expected to commit mornings and afternoons for five-day blocks every month.
Executives that want to implement innovation in their companies are also invited to participate. While the program will have a demo day, an actual prototype won’t be part of the requirements.
Aspiring entrepreneurs in Singapore are spoilt for choice when it comes to startup education programs. There’s JFDI, a highly-selective startup accelerator that invests in entrepreneurs to bring them from idea to prototype in 100 days.
Another established alternative is Founder Institute, an evening school known for its high drop-out rate and strict standards.
