Dear readers,
One of the most challenging things about having a new child – besides the actual act of giving birth – is settling on a name for it.
Your final choice doesn’t feel perfect, but it grows on you with time.
We put ourselves through the agony of coming up with a fitting name for our new ecommerce newsletter last week.
Our lead copy editor, Eileen, suggested calling it The Checkout, which immediately became our top choice; the word “checkout” is synonymous with ecommerce.
The decision to name it that wasn’t unanimous, but we had set a delivery date. The Checkout it is, I thought.
Why ecommerce, you might ask? This chart tells the whole story:
Before launching the newsletter, we’ve been publishing many in-depth ecommerce pieces since we launched our premium subscription product, and the stories have resonated with you.
As such, we felt that this was the right time to develop a product that better serves our readers’ interest in the ecommerce scene. We’ll make constant tweaks to get it right, so keep a lookout for the newsletter.
You can check out the inaugural issue here as well as our deeply reported companion story on how ultrafast fashion retailer Shein is becoming a billion-dollar question facing every ecommerce firm.
Moving on, we have more premium stories for you: We explore the heated rivalry between Carsome and Carro and how exactly these startups are transforming the way people buy cars.
We also examine Gojek’s challenging goal of going entirely green, buzzy remittance startup Nium’s latest financial numbers, as well as the landmark deal in which a Temasek-backed Indian e-pharmacy unicorn bought a publicly listed firm.
We have more exciting plans in store for readers. To enjoy in-depth and comprehensive coverage of Asia’s tech scene, do consider getting a Tech in Asia subscription.
